What is an Ayurvedic Cleanse?

It is a period of time when you make adjustments to your diet and lifestyle so the body can release the toxins which build up over time and reset and improve the digestive fire, known as Agni. You are eating easy to digest foods, using cleansing techniques, do activities which focus more inwards, and you rest a lot.

Why it is important to do a cleanse?

In Ayurveda there are 6 stages a disease goes through : building stage, spreading stage, accumulation stage, manifestation stage, complication stage. Periodically cleansing your body of toxins can prevent the diseases to move into later stages when it might be to difficult to handle or more challenging detox programs might be needed.

What results can you expect?

More energy. Resetting sleep and elimination patterns. Improved digestive fire.

Clearer skin and eyes. Feeling vibrant and alive. Breaking addictive cycles.

Who can do it and when should you do it?

Anybody can do this cleanse, except for women during pregnancy, breastfeeding or during bleeding days. Ayurveda recommends to do this type of gentle cleanse with the change of seasons. Start small with a few days and build up in time, once you are familiar and more comfortable with the entire process.

It’s all about the AGNI!

Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of the digestive fire, known as Agni. It is believed that a good digestive fire is the key to health and longevity.  If the fire is good in the belly, the breakdown of food and assimilation happen properly and the building of the tissue of the body is optimal. Doing a cleanse and giving a break to the digestive system while eating easily digestible foods can improve the Agni and support body’s own capacity to eliminate toxins. Yoga asana and pranayama practices can also ignite and maintain the Agni and support elimination process.

The tools you will be using in this program:

  • Diet - you will eat easy to digest foods with detoxifying properties (kitchari, soups & broths)

  • Lifestyle - you will rest and do activities which focus more inwards ( yoga, pranayama & meditation, writing)

  • Cleansing techniques - you will practice daily routines and rituals meant to support the entire process (self massage & kriyas)

  • Writing - you will be invited through writing and creative exercises to bring more clarity into what you want and what you don’t want into your life.

This program contains 3 phases:

Preparation 2-3 days: When you reduce and eliminate certain foods from your diet and prepare the body and your environment for the cleanse.

Cleansing 2-3 days: When you follow a mono-diet (eating one type of meal, in this case Kitchari), practicing yoga and pranayama and follow daily Ayurvedic cleansing techniques and rituals.

Integration 2-3 days: When you transition back into regular healthy foods.
